Tamarra Canu is an award winning Director of Photography living in Amiskwacîwâskahikan | Edmonton, AB. In 2021, their work in documentary won them Best Cinematographer in Alberta, a badge of honour when you identify as a prairie queer.
Tamarra is the Director of Photography for CBC’s Network TV show Push S1 and S2, The Nature of Things 101 S1 and S2, and Frick, I Love Nature. She was the cinematographer on #Skoden, an award winning film now screening in festivals nationally. Her body of work includes, feature length and short documentary, narrative shorts and episodic series, as well as commercial work for companies such as RBC, and the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada.
They are one of eight recipients nationally selected for the Herc Entertainment Services On-Set Apprenticeship Program in collaboration with the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.
In addition to her own filmmaking, Tamarra is eager to continue the conversation on accommodating and amplifying disabled and queer voices in media through community engagement and curated industry panels.
